Brett became interested in optometry in the spring of 2007, and began to gain a passion for the profession when shortly thereafter he began working for an optometrist as an ophthalmic technician. Among his various duties there, he took patient histories, performed chair skills, tonometry, refractions, ran advanced technology tests (visual fields, topography, etc.) , and scribed for the doctors.
Today, he has a wide spectrum of interests within optometry, including:

- Contact Lenses (including Specialty and Cosmetic Lenses)
- Vision Therapy
- Pediatrics
- Glaucoma Management
- Pre and Post-Op Co-Management
